PROGRAM FOR TRIBUTE TO JOSEPHINE BAKER ON HER RETIREMENT
This is something rare and wonderful for fans of Josephine Baker, one of the most famous French entertainers of the 20th century. This is the program for a tribute performance given in her honor when she retired in April of 1956. The cover is from Paul Colin's famous Tumulte Noir. There is a great, full length photo of her in fabulous costume with her autograph, and tributes written by Jean Cocteau, Louis Merlin, and Henri Varnan - the French Secretary of State for Arts and Letters.
The farewell Performance was titled "Les Adieux de Josephine et Adieu De Paris", and was organized by L'Association De La Presse Fr Music-Hall. The tribute was held at the Olympia Music Hall, directed by Bruno Coquatrix.
Also - a newspaper clipping of the event - Le Rideau Est Tombe Pour Josephine, from Figaro, April 11, 1956.
This is truly a "must have" for a fan of this great performer.
