Description

Robert Eugene Pougheon was an important painter associated with the French Art Deco movement. He was a recipient of a Grand Prix de Rome in 1914, and had already been exhibiting his work and won several awards. He was awarded silver and then a gold medal in Paris. He became a Professor at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris in 1935, and then an Inspector there. He became a member of the Institute Francais in 1942. In addition to smaller works, Pougheon also was commissioned to create murals. In the academic tradition, he did many studies for these murals prior to executing them. This is a study for a mural, gouache on paper.  35.5 x 18 inches.
