PIERRE TRAVERSE SCULPTURE "FEMME AU BAIN" IN WHITE ONYX
Pierre Traverse was a highly important French sculptor active during the 1920's and 30's. This spectacular, monumental and powerful nude is in white onyx, a costly, rare and temperamental material to work with.
She was inspired by the iconography of the seated Venus often found in Antiquity. Her strong but delicately beautiful face suggests surprise, as if caught at a private moment. Exhibited at the Salon des Artists Francais in 1928. 32" H x 15" W x 15" D, signed Pierre Traverse on the base.
From our collection of fine Art Deco and other sculpture.
