Description
The original of this vase, called the “Warwick Vase”, was found in Hadrian’s villa in Tivoli, and is now in a British collection.
It is so striking that copies became a popular “souvenir” for people on the Grand Tour of Europe. The casting was done by Barbedienne, one of the foremost bronze casters in France, and is very finely finished and has a beautiful patina.
It is a dramatic piece because of its size – 12 x 19 inches, and the imagery. It would make an excellent indoor planter, fruit bowl, or just be a stunning and intriguing decorative object.
